A new species of Pleurothallis subgenus Pleurothallis section Macrophyllae-Fasciculatae, recently discovered in upper montane cloud forests of the province of Loja, southern Ecuador, and the department of Amazonas, northern Peru, is described and illustrated as P. labajosii sp. nov. It is similar to other species of the P. cardiostola–P. lilijae complex, especially P. alopex, but differs from the latter in its oblong-lanceolate leaves; pale yellow to reddish-maroon, resupinate flowers; elliptic to elliptic-ovate, 5-veined dorsal sepal; ovate to ovate-triangular, 4-veined synsepal; recurved petals; and deep, triangular, minutely papillose labellum cavity with a deep, rounded glenion. A distribution map and information on the ecological preferences of the new species are provided.
