A new treefrog of the genus Charadrahyla (Anura, Hylidae) from Oaxaca, Mexico, with comments on the conservation status and distribution of related species
We describe a new species of Charadrahyla from the Sierra Juárez portion of the Sierra Madre Oriental in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, and provide morphological and molecular data to support the novelty of this species. The new species is most similar to Charadrahyla nephila, with which it has been confused in the past. We report on adult, larval, and juvenile specimens of this new species and parapatric C. nephila. We also report a novel population of the endangered Charadrahyla sakbah from the Sierra Monteflor portion of the Sierra Madre Oriental, also in Oaxaca, which significantly extends its known distribution. We provide an updated distribution map for species of Charadrahyla inhabiting Oaxaca. Finally, we provide conservation recommendations for various species in this genus, at least four of which should be considered Endangered.
